1/15/2018 0 Comments Week 2 - "Sweet"I finished this week's challenge with only a few minutes to spare. I used some chocolate wrappers I hadn't' thrown out and threw together a really quick, simple version of the wrappers. It was a fun exercise in imperfection and being flexible. I probably spent between 15-20 minutes on the sketch, as I needed to get to bed. I used pen and pencil crayons. I don't use pencil crayons often, so it was fun to play with a new medium, if only for a quick sketch.
So last year I only did one of the illustration challenges (as seen below). This year I wanted to commit to doing the full year to develop my skills. For me it is more of a sketch-a-week challenge, but maybe in a future year I will use a challenge platform to get feedback from peers and help me improve.
1/15/2018 0 Comments A year in the making... TazoSo I started this painting in January 2017. It was to be my first big watercolour-only painting I've really done on my own (not in art class). I took a really cute picture of my boyfriend's cat sometime in 2016, and decided I'd like to paint it. I started with a sketch, and admittedly used the grid method to make absolutely sure that I got proportions right. Slowly but surely, I worked my way through the different areas, starting with the wicker chair, moving to the lower blanket section, then see-sawing back and forth between the the cat and the blanket sections until it was finished. I took progress photos along the way, but somehow I managed to loose a number of them in the middle.
